Tangible Cultural Properties

There are some old historical buildings registered as Tangible Cultural Properties in Shizuoka city including old Shizuoka city hall. They are not only old, but also beautiful. Please go and see with your eyes to convince yourself why they’ve been registered as Tangible Cultural Properties.

We have “Kiyomizu dera(temple)” in Shizuoka. It’s the temple in Kyoto, is it?? Yes, but there’s one in Shizuoka and it’s also one of the Tangible Cultural Properties! Find out more here!

SHIZUOKA BANK HEAD OFFICE

OLD CITY HALL

 tangible cultural property,Cityhall,Spanish,old,Shizuoka,
This Spanish style architectural building was build in 1934! And it has been registered as a Tangible Cultural Property in 1996. On the left, you’ll see the new city right next to it. This one old is still used for city councils and a public gallery.

Shizuoka,Japan,cityhall,tangible cultural property,backward,

In front of the building, above the entrance, you’ll see Kanji writing saying “City hall of Shizuoka” in Japanese. But notice that it’s written backward! It’s usually written from left to right just like English. But this sign is written from right to left.

You can go inside during their office hours (usually on weekdays 8 to 5). The entrance part is beautiful. They have a huge doors leading to the entrance hall and stairs with beautiful stained glass at the landing.

Unfortunately, you cannot go up to the beautiful dome. But you can look at it from 360 degrees. Even though this is Spanish style architecture, you’ll see something Japanese inside and feel Showa era.

SHIZUOKA BANK HEAD OFFICE
P1040640_Fotor
Shizuoka Bank is the biggest regional bank in Shizuoka. It’s been called as “Shizugin” by local people. Their branches are actually all over the country even outside of Shizuoka. They are one of the biggest regional banks in Japan.

Their head office is located at the end of Gofukucho street, right on the big inter section. And this building is also one of the Tangible Cultural Properties. You can easily tell why if you look at the building. It was built in 1931, and has registered as one in 1998.

shizuokabank,bank,japan,regionalbank,

At the entrance, they have a sing of “Shizuoka Bank” written in Kanji characters. Here, I’d like you to notice that they are also written backward from right to left, just like the one at the city hall above. It’s really a beautiful classic building with find designs.

(The best) Mt.Fuji

Look at this!! It’s just glorious!!

IMG_0528 Every time when I get to see this beautiful view of Mt.Fuji, I always think that I’m glad to be here in Shizuoka. It changes its face depends on the time(morning, day time, sunset time), season or climate, even from the same place. This picture was taken from Miho beach area. I strongly recommend you to go this place. It’s one of my favorite places.

Nihon Daira

JR Higashi Shizuoka Station

Miho no Matsubara (world heritage!!)
P1150446
It’s been added to the “world heritage” list as a part of Mt.Fuji cultural site in 2013. Lots of tourists come here. I mean, look at this. I keep saying “it’s beautiful”, but IT IS beautiful.
Miho is a small peninsula, so it’s surrounded by the ocean. And believe or not, our beaches are beautiful as well!

IMG_8742The perfect location for this scheme of Mt.Fuji and blue ocean can ben seen only from here. There is no doubt about this place being registered to one of the world heritage sitesThere is a 500m long path called “Kami no Michi”, which leads you from the entrance of Miho no Matsubara. https://youtu.be/MhbITD6trww Some of the pine trees lining up on the sides are more than 400 years old. It is such a calm, quiet, and beautiful path to walk through. Feels like you will go up to the sky, just like the “Heavenly Maiden.”

Nihon Daira
IMG_1654This is also one of the “YOU GOTTA GO VISIT” places. Nihon daira is a plateau in Shizuoka city. You can either hike up or take some transportations to get up there. On top of it, there is a luxury hotel. And this was taken from their garden. You don’t have to stay at the hotel to go in there, anybody can go and enjoy this scenery. And of course you can stay there if you want to ! (more info coming up! stay tuned or make sure to bookmark this page!)

P1150398Here’s the reason why “You gotta be lucky enough” to see Mt.Fuji.
This was taken from the restaurant located on top of Nihon daira. The beautiful Mt.Fuji is supposed to be seen from here. HOWEVER, this is the view you would see if you are NOT lucky enough! You know it’s there, but seems like it doesn’t wanna come out and say hi to you.Winter time, Mt.Fuji would be covered with some snow on top. Besides that, the air is so crisp and clear, so it tends to show up beautifully.

JR Higashi Shizuoka  Staiton
 mt.fuji,Shizuoka,Japan,viewspot,HigashiShizuoka,

This is not a sightseeing spot, but just a train staiton. But this is one of the places where you can see such a nice view of Mt.Fuji. Even though there are some buildings and railroad in your sight, Higashi Shizuoka station is still one of the best places to view Mt.Fuji.

higashi shizuoka mt.fujiYou’ll probably be using this station while you are in Shizuoka, and it’s actually mentioned many many times in this site in the “access” info. So you will probably be there anyway on the way to some destinations in Shizuoka. Don’t forget to look out the window from the station. It’s also cool to see the Shinkansen, bullettrains pass by in front of you. (They don’t stop at Higashi Shizuoka station, so they go by so fast!!)

NIHONDAIRA YUME TERRACE

This facility was newly opened in November of 2018 by Shizuoka city and prefecture. The shape of the building is regular octagon and you can actually go all the way around the the octagon, which means, it allows you to enjoy the view of 360 degree on the deck. So this whole building could be considered as an observation deck.

Nihondaira is already known as one of the places you can see the most beautiful Mt.Fuji. On this observation deck, you can see even more amazing view from it. Moreover, please remember that the architect design of this building is also an important feature!

This was designed by very famous architect, Kengo Kuma, who has designed Shin Kokuritsu Kyogijyo which will be used for Tokyo Olympic in 2020. So you will be amazing by the beautiful architect design as well as the panoramic view!

It’s free to enter. They have a cafe where you can enjoy Shizuoka’s flavorful green tea and some other drinks and sweets made from the local products.
