hobby,Otaku,Shizuoka,Japan,go2japan,figure,manga,character,videogame,figure,As I mentioned on the other page, Shizuoka is famous for hobby stuff including plastic models. And there’s a hobby store right in front of JR Shizuoka station, called “Surugaya”. They carry all kinds of interesting stuff, like Manga, books, managines, video games, anime cards, charactor figures and many more. As you can see in this pic, they have a big “Atomu” figure in the show case.

They are all second handed stuff, so people sell interesting or rare stuff to them, and they re sell them there. Even though they don’t sell brand new stuff, there should be something you might be looking for!

DON QUIXOTE
DonQuixote Shopping Shizuoka Japan Discount Store
As most of you have heard of a discount store called “Don Quixote”. This is one of the hottest shopping place for international tourists. One of the reasons for that could be they are duty-free store!

Inside of the store is like a maze. It doesn’t mean you get lost, but you get to find so many stuffs that catch your interests as you walk through the aisles.

There is usually a Yakitori (chicken skewers) truck waiting outside at the Don Quixote in Shizuoka. That’s your first attraction (if you’re hungry). Then bicycles are very useful in Shizuoka area, so there are so many of them lining up and welcoming you at the entrance.

Department Stores

ISETAN
Isetan,Shizuoka,Japan,Department,Chanel,ISETAN is one of the most famous department stores in Japan. They’re based in Shinjyuku, Tokyo, but there’s also one in Shizuoka, too!

They always carry something in fashion, and often interesting evens are held by them time to time. I think one of the best parts of visiting department stores in Japan is “Depachika”. Usually, the basement floor of those department stores are food markets, that’s what it is. They have grocery store area and deli food area. The deli part is really famous. Their foods are “a bit” high in price if you compare to other deli places. But department stores are most of the time classified as luxury. So it’s sure worth what you pay for. About twenty year ago, those department stores used to be major places and probably was only the places where people go shopping. Now we have more choices like GMS stores. But they are still differentiate themselves from those general stores.

GMS (General Merchandize Stores)

This “Ito Yokado” in Shizuoka has been loved by people in town. In this “Ito Yokado“, they have some tenant shops inside. They have 100 yen shop, Daiso, Sundrug, Akachan honpo, and even haircut place! They have little amusement, so you can take your kids with you. This might be a good place not only to shop for you but also to see how Japanese people usually shop in their daily lives.

APITA is also one of the popular GMS stores in Japan. They used to be called “Uni”, but now they have a new name. “Uni” is still the group owner’s name, and they run the convenience stores called “Thanks” and “Circle K”.

At APITA Shizuoka, they have “Mujirushi store“, “G.U.” (subsidiary company of Uniqlo), McDonald’s, in case you miss the fast food, and whole lot more. Oh, they have a “Uogashi Sushi” restaurant here, too! And this one is “Sushi-go-around” type of restaurant. It’s not far from JR Shizuoka station. Some of you may wonder “Why pharmacies?” Well, they are the shops where you definitely want to go shopping. These drugs stores are really popular among international tourists! That’s why I’m introducing them here! In Shizuoka downtown area, we have “Matsumoto Kiyoshi“(Matsukiyo), “Sun Drug“, “Welcia” and “Daikoku Drug“. There are some branch stores all over the town, and this store in the pic is the one right by Shin-Shimizu station.
