Those of you who are interested in Japanese culture, you might have heard of the anime called “Chibimaruko-chan”. It’s a popular nationwide Manga series written and illustrated by Momoko Sakura, who has sadly passed away in 2018. It’s a simple but fun and heart warming story of her childhood. And where she was born and has grown up?
YES, in Shimizu-ku of Shizuoka-city!
It’s a story back in 80’s, so you can see how the ordinary life could be in Japan. Even though, the story is a bit out of date, people and kids love it because it’s just so ordinary and many parts of the stories could often be the cases in our real life. And “Chibimaruko-chan” has been running on TV anime nationwide since 1995! And I’m going to introduce some places to visit for “Chibimaruko-chan” fans!
We all love Cherry blossoms, Sakura. You can only see them in spring. The best season is supposed to be the beginning of April, but it really depends on the climate. Every year, the best timing can be different, but mostly around the beginning of April.
Our climate in Shizuoka is really nice and warm during this time of the year. In 2016, for example, the best beautiful Sakura were seen in the 1st and the 2nd week of April. I can’t really guarantee you when to come for the best Sakura. It’s mother nature thing, so just come in spring and see if you are lucky enough or not!
In other words, we know that spring has come when the cherry blossoms bloom. April is the time of entrance into schools or companies. So Sakura can be considered as a symbol of “new start”.
